With the release of A Cowboy Christmas Romance, starring Jana Kramer, Lifetime is adding spice to the Christmas movie scene by presenting its first-ever sex scene. Could this be the beginning of the network’s — and perhaps others’ — creative change in the Christmas film genre?
A Cowboy Christmas Romance, which was written by Grey’s Anatomy alum Sarah Drew and is set in an Arizona ranch community with Yellowstone influences, co-stars Adam Senn as the attractive rancher who draws Kramer’s attention when she goes back to her hometown in hopes of closing a real estate deal. In contrast to the genre’s usual family-friendly content, this holiday film deviates from the norm by presenting a more sophisticated, adult relationship.

“There is a huge demand for holiday films. “We’ve never given them a’sexy romance novel’ Christmas movie that feels grounded, real, and adult, and we cater to different audiences who enjoy different kinds of Christmas movies,” Drew stated to Yahoo Entertainment.
Pearl-clutchers were sweating when Kramer revealed the details of the sexier-than-usual love scenes on the November 27 episode of her Whine Down podcast.

Spoiler alert: He puts me down on some hay in this scene, and then we… and then… Of course, Lifetime and family are still involved. However, it was also going beyond boundaries there,” the 40-year-old Kramer, who was expecting at the time of filming, stated on the show.
Drew mentioned on the show that she battled to be in the kitchen counter scene starring Kramer and Senn, which is another intense sequence. “I was saying, ‘Don’t take away from me the sex and the steam. I intentionally wrote it because I wanted it there.”
