One of the peculiar customs of the British royal family seems to be that men and women have to eat on Christmas morning apart.
In case you didn’t know, the royal family normally has a very busy Christmas season. The royals enjoy going all out for the occasion, whether it’s sending out cards or decking their homes with elaborate trees. The family usually spends Christmas Day at Sandringham estate, where they attend a church service at St Mary Magdalene and then play a competitive game of charades after lunch.
However, Christmas morning is typically spent apart, according to former royal chef Darren McGrady, so Prince William and Princess Kate will be having coffee in different rooms.
In 2017, McGrady told The Daily Mail, “On Christmas Day, the ladies usually opt for a light breakfast of sliced fruit, half a grapefruit, toast, and coffee delivered to their rooms—the Queen’s tray is delivered at exactly 9 a.m.” In the meantime, the male Royals descend to the dining room around 8:30 a.m. to prepare for the 11 a.m. church service at St. Mary Magdalene. They have a full breakfast of eggs, bacon, and mushrooms, as well as kippers and grilled kidneys. Upon their return, pre-lunch drinks are immediately served.
