27 Years After Playing Chris Perez in “Selena,” Jon Seda Is “Still Friends” With Him (Exclusive)

Jon Seda remains friends with Chris Pérez, the character he played in the biographical movie Selena, almost 27 years after the latter’s release in theaters in March 1997.

I still have a friendship with Chris. Chris is continually creating songs and is simply an incredible guitarist. Seda, 53, gave Us Weekly an exclusive interview earlier this month to promote the NBC drama La Brea’s last season, which debuted on January 9. “Check out his music, it’s incredible,” Seda said. Seda considered the “sad” reality of the project and continued, saying that his time spent working on Selena will always hold a special place in his heart.

Regarding the subject of the movie, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, also known by her moniker Selena, he remarked, “It was obviously a sad time and it’s a shame that we had to make the movie, because obviously she wasn’t here anymore.” Yolanda Saldívar, Selena’s former boutique manager and fan club president, shot and killed the 23-year-old singer in March 1995. October 1995 saw the 63-year-old Saldívar declared guilty of first-degree murder. She is presently incarcerated in a Texas prison for life, and in March 2025, she will be eligible for release.

Selena was 54 years old when she passed away and was married to Pérez. Three years after Pérez joined Selena y Los Dinos, the couple was married in 1992. Seda portrayed the title character in Selena alongside Jennifer Lopez.
