Bryan Tanaka, Mariah Carey’s ex-boyfriend, speaks up about the couple’s 7-year breakup.

Speaking publicly about his split with Mariah Carey is Bryan Tanaka. The backup dancer, 40, posted a lengthy statement on social media on Tuesday, December 26th, addressing the couple’s breakup, claiming it was a “mutual” decision. Tanaka starts the Instagram post with, “Dear friends and fans, with mixed emotions, I share this personal update regarding my amicable separation from Mariah Carey after seven extraordinary years together.”

We have mutually decided to take distinct ways, and we approach these separate travels with a great deal of respect and gratitude for the priceless time we have spent together. Our shared artistic vision and the moments we’ve made will always hold a special place in my heart. When Carey, 54, joined Tanaka on the legendary singer-songwriter’s Adventures of Mimi tour in 2006, they got to work together. In a February 2017 interview with the Associated Press, she revealed the relationship after referring to him as her “boyfriend.” Carey’s reality series Mariah’s World on E! also featured scenes from their romance. Following Carey’s breakup with her ex-fiance, Australian millionaire James Packer, they began dating.

Tanaka’s absence from the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” singer’s Merry Christmas One and All! tour in mid-November sparked rumors about the couple’s breakup, according to People. The article also mentioned that he wasn’t spending the holidays in Aspen, Colorado, with Carey, as he typically does.
