On Monday, Snoop Dogg disclosed that his declaration to quit smoking, which elicited a lot of doubt from his followers, was only a tease for an advertising campaign for… a fire pit.
Rapper and well-known cannabis aficionado Snoop announced on social media on Thursday that he was “giving up smoke,” which led some followers to wonder if he was being serious. He clarified on Monday that he wasn’t.
“I understand your thought process: Snoop! In a way, smoke is everything! However, I’m over it,” he declared in an X video advertisement. “I’m giving up smoking. Fire was fixed with Solo Stove. They remove the ash.”
In the commercial, Calvin Broadus, real name Snoop Dogg, roasts marshmallows in front of the Solo Stove brand.
For the most part of his career, Snoop, 52, has incorporated smoking into his persona by including marijuana leaves on his album covers, merchandise, and music videos.
He even has a chat show on YouTube called “Double G News,” where he indulges in marijuana consumption alongside well-known people like rapper Moneybagg Yo and actor Tiffany Haddish.
Some on X questioned his income from the publicity stunt. Someone likened the trick to “pleading with the Pope to stop preaching in exchange for a brand deal.”
He “had the world’s stoners questioning their life choices for this ad,” according to another.
