Melissa Rivers defends Jo Koy, the host of the 2024 Golden Globes, saying that the hate isn’t “justified” (Exclusive)

Melissa Rivers stood up for 2024 Golden Globes presenter Jo Koy following the comedian’s unfavorable reviews. Regarding the lack of support Koy, 52, received for his hosting debut, Rivers, 55, exclusively told Us Weekly on Monday, January 8. “That was not justified.” Anyone familiar with these shows is aware that the hosts work with a team of writers and prepare for months in advance. He was employed just ten days ago.

Following a protracted search, Koy was revealed as the host on December 21. Rivers continued, saying she believes the crowd decided “they’re not going to laugh” since Koy was a “unknown” to many of them. “A lot of the stuff was—I wouldn’t say—strong enough to make people laugh and not offend anyone, but it wasn’t his strongest either,” she went on. “I believe the group decided they wouldn’t be having any fun.”

Rivers identified a couple instances that she thought were funny, such as a joke about Oppenheimer and another about Taylor Swift being heavily covered by the NFL ever since she started dating tight end Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs.
In reference to the joke, Rivers stated, “It was all about the NFL.” “And it was actually a great reference, because even the NFL on Instagram is like, ‘Taylor Swift has arrived at the stadium,’ and I love that she’s happy,” which has oversaturated every football fan.
