‘The Crown’ methodically recreated Princess Diana’s’revenge outfit’

Princess Diana’s stunning clothes are the real show-stealer in The Crown, not any one character or plot point.
The actresses who portray Diana in the series—Emma Corrin in Season 4 and Elizabeth Debicki in Seasons 5 and 6—bring those outfits to life. Sid Roberts, the costume designer for the performance, tells Yahoo Entertainment that she never imagined her creations would spark a fresh interest in the late princess’s wardrobe, but that is exactly what happened. With her mother Amy by her side, Roberts has created costumes for The Crown’s final five seasons. “It’s really humbling,” she adds. Following the November release of Season 6, Part 1 on Netflix, which focuses on Diana’s last days and her budding romance with Egyptian filmmaker Dodi Fayed, fans combed the internet for ensembles that evoked Diana.

Google searches for the “Princess Diana revenge dress” increased 400% globally (1,654% in the U.S. alone), according to data from retailer Boohoo. Meanwhile, searches for the blue swimsuit she wore on a yacht during what would be her final vacation before passing away skyrocketed 850%, a ten-fold increase from the same time last year. Meanwhile, looks for “pink plaid pants,” which Corrin wore in Season 4, and houndstooth suits that are reminiscent of Diana. “People of all generations” have always connected to Diana’s ability to make a statement with her wardrobe, according to Roberts. She never identified as just one person. She used her clothing to inhabit each of these incarnations.”
