The newest Netflix sensation is “My Life With the Walter Boys.” Why the love triangle on TikTok is so addictive.
Since its December 7 debut, the young adult romantic series My Life With the Walter Boys has garnered over 20 million views on Netflix. With over 1 billion views on TikTok, the love triangle at the show’s core has already earned a second season renewal.
Based on a 2014 novel by Ali Novak, the show centers on Jackie, an orphaned adolescent who moves to rural Colorado with her godmother and her ten children, known as the “Walter Boys,” after leaving her life in Manhattan. Jackie now shares a farm with the erudite Alex and the endearing but troubled Cole, and she finds herself drawn to both of them. Fans of the characters, known as fan edits, have started creating videos as homages to Team Cole or Team Alex on TikTokers. The majority of the articles include snippets (or a sequence of snippets) from the show that feature their favorite romantic interest in a positive light.
They may be acting kindly or they may be yearning staring at the main character. In others, they’re merely trying to look good in compilations with somber soundtracks. Readers of these tributes talk about their reasons for supporting one love interest over another in the comments sections. In a TikTok post with 12.3 million views, Alex is seen preparing Jackie coffee after learning that she chose to stay up late. She’s not there when he shows up to present it at her bedroom door. Fans know that Jackie left Alex at home to be with Cole at that moment in the episode, even though the clip ends there. While Olivia Rodrigo’s song “Traitor” plays in the background of the clip, Alex’s fans view this as a betrayal, Cole’s fans view it as a major victory.
