Following the appearance of fake AI-generated explicit images, Taylor Swift is no longer searchable on X.
Us Weekly has confirmed that users of X on social media are unable to now search for Taylor Swift. An error message will appear for anyone trying to type the 34-year-old pop star’s name into the X search box. The notice “Something went wrong” will appear once you hit enter. Try loading again. “Don’t fret — it’s not your fault,” a second note adds, appearing lower on the page.
The social media incident occurred soon after an AI-generated photo controversy went viral on the platform, however neither Swift nor X, the company’s owner, Elon Musk, have commented on it. On Wednesday, January 24, false, sexual photos of Swift appeared on X, produced by artificial intelligence without her permission. Following 17 hours, X removed the pictures amid rumors that Swift was thinking of filing a lawsuit. In a statement issued on Friday, January 26, SAG-AFTRA stated, “The sexually explicit, A.I.-generated images depicting Taylor Swift are upsetting, harmful, and deeply concerning.” “It must be illegal to create and distribute phony photos without permission, especially those that are vulgar in character. We have the ability as a society to regulate these technologies, but we need to move quickly to avoid it being too late. “We support Taylor and women everywhere who are the victims of this kind of theft of their privacy and right to autonomy,” the statement said in its conclusion.
SAG-AFTRA further expressed support for the Preventing Deepfakes of Intimate Images Act. One of the reasons actors went on strike in 2023 was to safeguard performers from AI. Congressman Joe Morelle of New York had introduced the bill to prohibit the use of NSFW images created using photoshopped photographs.
