McDonald’s offers Happy Mil for adults. Why adults are crazy about them.
With its newest Happy Meal, which is meant for grownups, McDonald’s is encouraging patrons to experience childhood nostalgia once more.
The fast-food restaurant giant unveiled the Kerwin Frost Box this week, a partnership with comedian and artist Kerwin Frost, who claims to have been a lifetime fan of the company. With a Big Mac or Chicken McNugget option, fries, and a Coke included, the meal is designed to evoke “nostalgic joy” due to Frost’s recreation of the 1988-released McNugget Buddy collectibles. Lance West, a 59-year-old Oklahoman, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership on X (previously known as Twitter) by posting a picture of his own Kerwin Frost Box.
“I adore the nostalgia so much. “My first real job out of high school was at McDonald’s, and I’ve always had a soft spot for the Big Mac,” he tells Yahoo Life. “Ordered a Happy Meal and felt a little weird, being fifty-nine years old. Imagine how happy I was to hear that McDonald’s was providing an adult version.
Experts in psychology are not surprised by this.
“Who isn’t eager to participate? According to clinical psychologist Barbara Greenberg, “Who wouldn’t want to relive their childhood without the obligations of maturity?” she says to Yahoo Life. “There aren’t many playgrounds specifically for adults. The entire McDonald’s experience is like to grownups returning to a playground.
Happy Meal’s supersized, whimsical packaging and accompanying collectible provide even more enjoyment to the meal, especially for adults who may have outgrown their love of collecting toys.
